TRAINING

we periodically participate in training courses and updates for volunteer rescuers.

BLS and BLS-D: What Are They? What they are used for and how they are put into practice

The BLS (Basic Life Support) course is a basic life or vital functions support course. This is a training course aimed at acquiring first aid techniques, such as cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. When the use of the defibrillator is added to the program then the title of the course becomes BLSD (Basic Life Support Defibrillation). Sudden Cardiac Arrest First aid, if given properly, can save lives. Cardiac arrest or "sudden cardiac death" is an event that occurs very often in Western society, it is estimated that 1 in 1000 people suffer from it. The most affected subjects would be young and without "apparent" health problems; obviously this manifestation is a wake-up call to investigate the presence of serious pathologies. The first action to do in front of a case of cardiac arrest is to know how to recognize the emergency situation and, after having warned the 118, provide help to restore the vital functions. The maneuvers can be manual or involve the use of a machine called a defibrillator, which stimulates the resumption of the heart rhythm. These are the main objectives of achieving the BLSD course.

Who Can Take a BLS-D Course? All individuals can take a BLS-D course and learn how to intervene in cardiac arrest. However, for some categories, attending a BLS and BLSD course is required. We are talking about health personnel: doctors, nurses, medical students, volunteer rescuers, ambulance operators and operators in emergency wards outside the hospital, as well as participation in public recruitment competitions in the armed forces and law enforcement (police, guard of finance, carabinieri, army, fire brigade) provides for the possession of the BLS and BLSD certificate and also the activity carried out in sports associations. The BLS-D courses that you can find thanks to Imprendo.org are all recognized and compliant courses to the standards defined internationally. At the end of the course you will be issued the necessary certification to be eligible and meet all the required requirements. How will a BLS - BLSD course take place? A BLS - BLSD course usually lasts a whole day and is divided into a theoretical and a practical part of the exercise. For healthcare professionals, the program will be slightly more complex and will include the use of additional equipment. At the end of the course there is a final exam with consequent release of a certificate. No prerequisite is required to access the courses.BlS course program The BLS (Basic Life Support) course covers the basics for restoring vital functions. The goal of first aid is to slow down the mechanisms that would inevitably create irreversible damage to the heart, cardiovascular system and brain. Good handling by the rescuer creates the basis for the success of the machinery (defibrillator and medical treatment). Muscle oxygenation occurs through two actions: external chest compressions and artificial respiration to oxygenate the blood. If you can restore blood flow and oxygen to the brain you will have excellent results. The student will be taught these techniques both through lecture notes and directly through practical exercises on models or mannequins. Program of a BLSD course In addition to the notions of BLS, the BLSD course includes the use of the defibrillator. It is an instrument that sends electrical discharges towards the heart through plates attached to the chest. The electric shock interrupts the heart muscle for an instant in the hope that it spontaneously resumes its cardiovascular activities in a correct way. The student will be instructed on the use of the "semi-automatic" defibrillator, that is the one that can be used in a non-hospital environment and found in various work environments.
